Boulder is located at the base of the Flatirons, at an altitude of 5,563 feet, and just 30 minutes from Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park. A gateway to the Rocky Mountains, it is also considered by many to be one of the most livable and interesting cities in America.
The county offers thousands of acres of open space for recreational opportunities, including 50 miles of bike trails and 40 miles of hiking trails. Area residents enjoy hiking, rock climbing, cycling, fishing, hang gliding, kayaking, running, area ski mountains, and snowshoeing. Because of its climate and altitude, many amateur and world-class athletes train in the Boulder area.
Boulder is also home to the University of Colorado, which exerts a major influence on the city's industry, economics, and demographics, providing diversity to the city's population.

Arts, Entertainment & Sports
Both Boulder and Denver provide a variety of cultural events and activities. Boulder hosts such popular events as the annual Conference on World Affairs, the Kinetic Conveyance Race and Challenge, the Bolder Boulder, and the Shakespeare Festival - held under the stars on the CU-Boulder campus.
Only a 30-minute drive from Boulder, The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is the second-largest arts complex in the country. The Center offers performances by the Colorado Ballet, Colorado Symphony, Opera Colorado, and a variety of Broadway plays. Lower Downtown Denver (LoDo), is a popular area for nightlife activities, fine and casual dining, art exhibits, and more. Denver is home to the Colorado Rockies baseball team, Avalanche hockey team, and Denver Broncos football team.
