Suzanne Carroll, MEd, CMT
(Director of Education)
Suzanne earned a BA in Education from Towson State University in 1993, and a
Master’s of Education from Lesley University in 2006. She graduated from BCMT in
1995 and had a successful massage therapy private practice for 11 years. Her practice
was primarily in chiropractic offices, but she has also worked and volunteered in
numerous other settings utilizing a combination of massage styles learned at BCMT.
Her clients have ranged from infants to seniors, from athletes at the Olympics (2002)
and the Paralympics (1996) to hospital patients and nursing home residents. After graduation from BCMT, Suzanne became a teacher’s assistant in Zen Shiatsu. Soon she worked as a Clinic/Internship Supervisor, and then becoming an instructor in 1998. Suzanne has taught Shiatsu, Structural Kinesiology, and Normalization of Soft Tissue. In her role as Director she enjoys working with all students and faculty to support academic excellence. Suzanne is a contributing author to the textbook Teaching Massage.
Caroline Adamson Adrian, MS, PT
Caroline (Carrie) received her BS in Biology in 1994 from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and gained animal experience working in veterinary hospitals since 1990. She received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree from North Georgia College in 1999. Caroline has participated in a number of continuing education seminars on animal rehabilitation, both as a participant and lecturer since 1998. She has lectured nationally and internationally on the topic of veterinary rehabilitation. She is a contributor to the book Canine Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy as well as Veterinary Clinics of North America. She presently serves as Vice President for the Animal Special Interest Group within the American Physical Therapy Association. Caroline currently directs the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver. Her department serves as one of the few nationally approved clinical practicum sites for the first formal animal rehabilitation-training program offered in the country. Caroline teaches in the Canine Massage Certificate Program.
Shelly Barnard, CMT
Shelly graduated from Kenyon College in 1991 with a degree in English Literature and
minors in both Psychology and Vocal Music. She received her CMT from BCMT in 1998,
and then earned additional certification in Prenatal, Labor and Postpartum Massage
from Carole Osborne-Sheets in 2002. Shelly has a part-time private practice and works
for Longmont United Hospital, where she provides massage at the Health Center of
Integrated Therapies, teaches 'Massage for the Expectant Mother' community
classes, and is part of the BirthPlace Massage Therapy team. She is constantly learning
more about the life cycle as both a labor support person and a volunteer massage
therapist for HospiceCare. Shelly teaches Prenatal and Postpartum Massage.
Sherry Bauer, BS, CMT
Sherry received her BS in Education from Miami University in 1991 and completed the
diploma program at BCMT in 1995. For the last 11 years she has studied and
practiced eastern healing arts in the form of Zen Shiatsu, Quantum Shiatsu and Chi
Kung Healing. Sherry has been training at the Chi Kung School at the Body Energy
Center since 1996 and has completed three Medical Chi Kung Trainings in China.
Since 2000, she has taught Vibrational Medicine and Chi Kung Healing, and worked
with western medical clinics throughout the U.S. incorporating Chi Kung. She has a
private practice in Boulder, CO.
Amy Belchinsky, CMT
In 1993, Amy graduated from the Academy of Somatic Healing Arts in Atlanta, Georgia. She received a triple certification in Neuromuscular Therapy, Clinical Sports massage and Therapeutic massage. She has also received additional certifications in Reiki, Craniosacral therapy, Myofascial Release, Healing Touch and Bodywork for the Childbearing Year. In 1998, Amy’s curiosity led her to study breathwork and meditation in India where she spent three months in the remote village in Hairakan, in Uttar Pradesk. Her interest in culture has also taken her to Bali, Indonesia where she studied Balinese dance and religiosity through Naropa’s study abroad program in 2001. Any is presently employed by the Longmont United Hospital where she provides integrative massage at the Health Center of Integrated Therapies and is part of the Birthplace massage team. She also has a part time private practice where she enjoys facilitating the awareness of the body with a mindful and compassionate presence. Amy is an instructor in the Integrative Therapeutic massage course.
Ann Berwick, CMT, Licensed Esthetician
Ann received her BS in Sociology from North London Polytechnic in London, England.
She is also a licensed esthetician specializing in LaStone Therapy, is certified in aromatherapy and received her C.M.T. from the London School of Aromatherapy. Ann is the author of the book Aromatherapy, A Holistic Guide. She has 22 years of experience in massage, aromatherapy and esthetics (skin care). She was the principle tutor at the London School of Aromatherapy, the Senior Esthetician and Director of Education for Essentiels Spa in Boulder, an aromatherapy lecturer for Seven Bowls School of Nutrition and Healing and the Rocky Mountain School of Botanical Studies. She was also the founding president for the National Association for Holistic
Aromatherapy and maintains a private esthetics, bodywork and aromatherapy practice in Boulder. Ann teaches Aromatherapy, Hydrotherapy and is the coordinator for the Spa Elements Certificate Program.
Jared Bonnette, DC
Jared graduated from Parker College of Chiropractic with a BS in Anatomy and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He is also certified in Acupuncture and is currently working on his Masters degree in Human Nutrition. He currently practices in Boulder in a multidisciplinary practice where he performs acupuncture and brain-based chiropractic care. Jared is a member of the Sciences department and currently teaches Anatomy and Physiology.
Laurie Boyer, BA, CMT, NCTMB, ICCE, CD
Laurie attended Humboldt State University, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 1984. She became certified as a massage therapist in 2004, graduating with honors from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy. Laurie has a part-time private practice as well as providing therapy for patients, employees and community members at Exempla’s Health and Healing Center. Laurie has shared her passion and support for birth with families since 1987. She is certified as a childbirth educator with The International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) and as a labor doula with Doulas of North America (DONA). As an educator, she teaches childbirth and parenting classes for Boulder Community Hospital and Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center. As a doula, she has attended over 350 births at various locations in Boulder and Denver county.
Jill Brekken, CMT
Jill graduated from BCMT in 1994. It is her love for the Massage Therapy profession and her drive for professionalism that brings her back to BCMT as a Career Instructor. Jill brings over 24 years of combined experience in all aspects of personnel management, customer service, employee management and business ownership. She has had a varied 13 yr practice/business that has ranged from a single therapist office to a multi-discipline Wellness Center. The core of Jills clients are pain-reduction, rehabilitation massage but also has a passion for pre-natal and maintenance massage. Prior to joining the Massage profession Jill studied Management/Training at Parks College and was an Area Training Manager in San Francisco for several years. She returned to the Rocky Mountains to raise her kids, and also found a wonderful new career.
Stephanie Brooks, MA, LMT
Stephanie earned her MA in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology at Naropa University. She attended the Finger Lakes School of Massage Therapy in New York, where she is a licensed massage therapist. She has worked as a counselor with children, individuals and families in Colorado, New York and Vermont. The ability to learn about oneself through compassionate therapeutic touch and be inspired to move towards self-care is what makes her passionate about massage. Currently, she works for an osteopath and in private practice. Stephanie works in the psychosocial department and teaches Ethics.
Nathan Butryn, CMT
Nate attended the University of Albany in New York studying Kinesiology and Athletic
Training. He received his CMT from BCMT in 1998 and completed the Orthopedic and
Sports Certificate Program in 2000. In his private practice, he focuses on orthopedic
and sports massage, injury rehabilitation, and postural correction. Nate specializes in
chronic pain, whiplash, and postural dysfunction treatment. He also works with
athletes and has worked with multiple Olympic athletes, professional runners/triathletes and football players. Nate teaches all of the courses in the Normalization of Soft Tissue department, which includes Orthopedic Massage, Sports Massage, Normalization of Soft Tissue, and Clinical Kinesiology. He also instructs in the Orthopedic and Sports Certificate Program.
Elaine Calenda, AOS, NCTMB
Elaine Calenda graduated from the Swedish Institute in 1979 with her CMT and gained clinical work experience at the Center of Osteopathic Sports Medicine in New York City. Elaine was an instructor at the Swedish Institute for six years and in 1992 was invited to teach at BCMT. Elaine contributed to the development of the AOS Medical Massage course and has participated in several BCMT research projects including: “The Effects of Massage for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome” and “Chronic Tension Headache.” Elaine writes for massage and CAM publications and participates in a number of committees dedicated to the advancement of the profession. She is also the president of Acquired Touch, Inc., a digital video education company, providing
advanced education in therapeutic massage, and Creative Director of Digit Press Publishing Anatomy Charts. She is a member of the teaching team in the Orthopedic and Sports Massage Certificate Program and teaches Structural Kinesiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology, and Medical Massage. Elaine is a contributing author to the textbook Teaching Massage.
Amy Cramer, AA, CMT
Amy earned her Associates degree from Hudson Valley Community College, in Troy, NY, where she focused on athletic training. She graduated with honors from BCMT in 2002. In her private practice, Amy focuses on sports & orthopedic massage and treatment of chronic overuse syndromes. Amy specializes in helping others with TMJ dysfunction, tension headaches, athletic injury recovery, and chronic pain. She is currently teaching the Orthopedic massage elective and Structural Kinesiology. She is a teacher's assistant in the Anatomiken classes and is an internship supervisor with the CU elite athletes and the Colorado Crush arena football team.
Nate Cuddihy-Garner, BA, CMT
Nate received a BA in History and Liberal Arts from The College of Wooster and his C.M.T. from Brenneke School of Massage, Seattle, WA. He is also a LMP in Washington and a Certified Instructor by the Kajukenbo Association of America. In his private practice, Nate specializes in integrated deep tissue therapy for the prevention, treatment and maintenance of acute and chronic injuries and pain. This is achieved by using a holistic approach incorporating specific treatment techniques, energy work, and psychosomatic bodywork principles. Nate teaches Normalization of Soft Tissue, Clinical Kinesiology, Sports Massage, Seated Massage, and courses in the Orthopedic and Sports Certificate Program.
Sara Cunningham, NCTMB
Sara is a graduate of the Universal Center of Healing Arts in Omaha, Nebraska. She
has been practicing massage therapy since 2000, working in spas since 2002 as a lead therapist helping to create spa treatments and develop protocols. She has a deep connection with stones and had been working with them before she became a massage therapist. Sara teaches Hydrotherapy and courses in the Spa Elements Certificate Program.
Lynn Daniels, BA, AOBTA, NCTMB
Lynn received her BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado. She has maintained a private practice in Boulder since graduating from BCMT in 1998. She avidly pursues continuing education in her field with two teachers who studied directly with Dr. Shizuto Masunaga, the creator of Zen Shiatsu: Pauline Sasaki, creator of Quantum Shiatsu, and Lindy Ferrigno, a Zen and Quantum Shiatsu teacher with 28 years of experience. Past experience includes work at Longmont United Hospital where she practiced Shiatsu and massage in The Birth Place, Day Surgery and with elders. Lynn has also partnered with a chiropractic office working extensively with people recovering from traumatic injuries and utilizing sports massage with triathletes, competitive skiers, and long distance runners. Lynn is a student and practitioner of Shamanic Arts. The bumper sticker on her car professes her love of the natural world: Tree Hugger and Dirt Worshipper. Lynn teaches Zen Shiatsu in the 1000-Hour CMT Program at BCMT. She is also a certified practitioner with the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia.
Sarah Flanders, BS, CMT
Sarah Flanders is a 1995 graduate of Virginia Tech, earning a BS in Biology and a BA in English. She graduated from BCMT in 1997 and has been a practicing massage therapist ever since. Over the years she has continued her education in Shiatsu, NST, and Integrative massage. She deeply loves and appreciates Shiatsu for her own self-growth and for the assistance it provides clients in their own healing processes on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. Sarah says that it is an honor to teach in the profession that has been such an integral part of her development as a person.
Christa Forsythe, BA, CMT
Christa attended Washington University as a dance and pre-med major then transferred to Naropa University and received a combined degree in Eastern/Western Psychology and Movement Studies. She originally came to bodywork as a professional modern dancer, dancing in companies in San Francisco and Hawaii. She attended The Massage Institute in San Francisco and, while in Hawaii, had the good fortune to study with Auntie Margaret Machado, a master of Lomi-Lomi massage, folk medicine and herbal remedies. Ten years later, she came to study at BCMT and graduated in 1986. She has been a practicing bodyworker for over 25 years and specializes in both Integrative Therapeutic Massage and a synthesis of Zen and Quantum Shiatsu. As a teacher, professional dancer, and student of meditation, Christa brings insight,
compassion and the wisdom of experience to her work. She currently teaches Zen Shiatsu in the 1000-Hour CMT Program and in the Art of Zen Certificate Program, and maintains her private practice at the Heart Fire Healing Center.
Mary Ann Foster, BA, CMT
Mary Ann teaches Movement, Clinical Kinesiology, and Integrative Therapeutic Massage. She has been in practice since 1980 and is trained in Hakomi, Rolfing, Craniosacral, body-mind centering, lymph drainage, and movement analysis. Mary Ann is the author of Somatic Patterning and a regular contributor to Massage and Bodywork Magazine. Her work integrates patterning exercises into massage to free both practitioner and client from pain by improving posture and efficiency of movement. Mary Ann is a contributing author to the textbook Teaching Massage.
Gaye Franklin, BS, LMT, NCTMB
Gaye received her BS in Therapeutic Recreation from West Virginia University. Her massage career began in 1989. She has been a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist since 1992 and is certified in Elderly Massage and Massage for the Childbearing Years. She is a LMP in Washington with additional experience in neuromuscular therapy, sports massage, neonatal training, and teacher training. She has worked in many clinics, rehabilitation centers and private practice settings. She has also worked with a wide variety of people and organizations including the Northwest AIDS Foundation and the Washington State Sports Massage Team. While serving as the Director of Student Services and teaching at the Seattle Massage School, she discovered her passion for the education of massage. In 1995 she moved to Boulder and continued her teaching at BCMT. Sharing her knowledge, experience and love of massage with her students fulfills her every day she walks into the classroom. Gaye teaches Introduction to Massage, Swedish Therapeutic Massage, and Structural Kinesiology.
Stacey Bronson Gilbert, BFA, CMT
Stacey received a BFA in Dance from the University of Colorado in 1989. Upon graduating she moved to Seattle, WA where she had a professional dance company for several years. In 1994 she graduated from the Brian Utting School of Massage in Seattle. She is a Certified Infant Massage Instructor and received additional certification in prenatal, labor and postpartum massage. Since then she has found that supporting women through the miraculous journey of motherhood to be inspirational. Stacey works for Longmont United Hospital at the Health Center of Integrated Therapies, at The Birthplace and teaches infant massage in the community classes. Her work at BCMT includes teaching Swedish massage, prenatal/ postpartum electives and in the 125-hour prenatal/labor/postpartum certification program.
Dona Hittinger, CMT
Dona attended the Gainesville University in Gainesville, Florida studying business and accounting in 1976. She spent 20+ years in the medical industry training companies on business concepts and accounting principles. Dona received her massage training at the Healing Arts Institute in Fort Collins, CO in 2000. She has also received additional certifications in Reiki, Craniosacral Therapy and Lomi Lomi. Her areas of emphasis in her private practice are Craniosacral and energy therapies. Dona works with children and adults suffering from learning disorders and post traumatic stress disorder associated with trauma and injury. Dona teaches in the Career Development department sharing both her knowledge and experiences in the industry.
Beth Hoffman, DC
Beth earned her BA in Kinesiology from CU-Boulder and then her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University. Beth has a thriving chiropractic practice in South Denver. She currently teaches in our Human Sciences department in Anatomy and Physiology.
Michelle Howard, AOS, NCTMB
Michelle is an Associate Faculty member in the Human Science Department where she teaches kinesthetic anatomy in both the 1,000 Hour and Continuing Education programs, using the Zahourek System. Michelle mentored with Dr. Kenneth R. Morgareidge and Mr. Jon Zahourek learning the Zoologik Maniken System. She teaches part-time for Zahourek Systems, Inc. as well as at the Anatomy in Clay Center of Boulder. Additionally, Michelle is a nationally certified massage therapist with over ten years experience helping people understand and befriend their bodies.
Doug Jones
Doug is certified in Craniosacral Therapy, massage therapy, polarity therapy, and corrective tissue biomechanics. He maintains a private practice specializing in clinical cranial therapy, energy development and management skills. Doug is an instructor in Craniosacral Therapy for the AOS program.
Eeris Kallil, CMT
Eeris’ love for massage started with dance and meditation studies. Since graduating from BCMT in 1988, she has completed additional training in Anma Therapy, holds a 100-Hour Certificate of Chinese Medicine, and has studied Basic MLD, Quantum Shiatsu, ballroom/contact improvisational dance, and Playback improvisational theater. She specializes in Shiatsu, Oriental bodywork, and intuitive massage in her private practice. Eeris works with intuition and energies through grounding and connecting with the physical body. Being a breast cancer survivor, she has developed a course for massage therapists working with breast cancer patients. She is also the creator of Core Alignment, a passive movement technique that is effective in the alignment of the spine, shoulders and pelvis. Eeris is honored to be a part of your journey of personal growth and looks forward to supporting you in making your educational experience rich and enlightening. Eeris teaches in the Shiatsu and Movement Departments.
Iris Lee Klapper, LMT
Iris is a 1987 graduate of the Swedish Institute in New York and is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. She is certified by the International Association of Infant Massage Instructors and is also a graduate of the Skilled Touch Institute as a Certified Seated Massage Instructor. Iris began teaching at BCMT over a decade ago before taking a leave to become the director of Dream Catcher Learning Centers. Iris returned to BCMT in 2005. She teaches Infant Massage and Seated Massage.
Marcia Klump, MA, CSTA/NA
Marcia attended the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology and graduated with a MA in Transpersonal Studies/Psychology. She went on to study Craniosacral Therapy and is a registered Craniosacral Therapist. Marcia is also a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner and works with a short-term naturalistic approach to the resolution and healing of trauma. She currently teaches Trauma and the Body in the AOS program.
Barbara Maciejewski, CMT, CCMT
Barbara is a graduate of BCMT and completed the Canine Massage Certificate Program. Barbara’s love of dogs and her passion to improve their quality of life were the driving forces that led her to specialize in canine massage. The same benefits of improved health and well-being achieved through massage for humans can be a reality for canines as well. Her human and canine private practice, Balancing Touch, incorporates many of the techniques from the modalities of Swedish and deep-tissue massage, neuromuscular treatment, t-touch, reflexology, acupressure and polarity therapy. Each session is designed to address the specific needs of her human or canine client. In addition to her private practice, Barbara is a supervisor for the animal program’s internships and a certified instructor of the Red Cross’s First Aid for Small Animals. She coordinates and teaches Animal Massage and courses in the Canine Certificate Program.
Ines Manteuffel, RPP, CMT, RCST
Ines graduated from BCMT in 1994 and since then has explored especially energy-based bodywork. She is a Registered Polarity Practitioner and a Registered Craniosacral Therapist. She has also trained in trauma work (based on Peter Levine's "Somatic Experiencing) and Hakomi Somatics (body-centered psychotherapy). Other than supporting clients through those ways, her passion is to practice and teach yoga. Her love of yoga and energy traditions stems from the recognition and emphasis of life force inherent in those traditions which, for Ines, is one of the most interesting and profound ways to explore the mystery of life. Ines currently teaches Polarity Therapy.
Brigitte Mars, AHG, MT
Brigitte Mars is an herbalist with over 35 years experience in natural medicine. She is a prfessional member of The American Herbalist Guild, and the author of Addiction Free Naturally, Sex, Love and Health, The HempNut Cookbook, Rawsome!, and Healing Herbal Teas. Bridgett is a professional member of The American Herbalist Guild. She also teaches at Naropa University, Esalen Institute, Kripalu, and Seven Bowls Nutrition School, and maintains a nutritional and herbal private practice. She also works as a practitioner for Pharmaca and has a local weekly radio show, Naturally. Brigitte has been happily married for thirty years to human design analyst,
Tom Pfeiffer with whom she teaches raw food workshops, and she is the mother of Sunflower Sparkle Mars, with whom she leads Herb Camp for Kids, and Rainbeau Harmony Mars. Brigitte teaches Herbology.
Ann McCauley, MA
Ann received her BA in Dance Therapy from Mary Washington College and her MA in Dance from the University of Colorado - Boulder. She also holds a certificate in Jin Shin Jyutsu, the physio-philosophy that is an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in the body. Ann spent eight years with Nancy Spanier Dance Theatre and performed with five European tours with appearances including Wolf Trap Farm Park, Aarhus Festival, and Edinburgh Festival. She is also a dance and yoga instructor for the National Theatre Conservatory, as well as a teacher and administrator for Community Dance Collective. She served as an Artreach artist and for 14 years was an Associate Artist in Choreography for the Tony Award winning Denver Center Theatre
Company. In her free time she enjoys knitting and recently wrote The Pleasures of Knitting: Timeless Feminine Sweaters. Ann has been a Movement instructor at BCMT since 1996.
Stephen Melis, DC, CMT
Stephen graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2006 and BCMT in 1994. Prior to attending chiropractic college, Stephen taught in the Normalization of Soft Tissue department and had a private practice in Boulder. Currently, Stephen is practicing as a chiropractor and teaches EK IV.
Natalie W. Morgan, BS, NCTMB
Natalie graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS in Marketing in 1993. In 2000 she graduated from BCMT and currently has a private practice in Boulder. She continuously studies multiple modalities with a current emphasis on visceral manipulation. Her practice of Pilates and yoga deepens her understanding of the body. She passionately helps people awaken and enliven their connection within their bodies through education. Natalie currently teaches Normalization of Soft Tissue, EK II and is a Clinic Supervisor.
Dee Dee Roberts, BA, CMT
Dee Dee graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA in Secondary Education. In 1985, she graduated from BCMT and became certified in Reflexology from the International Institute of Reflexology. Dee Dee has additional training in psychological kinesiology, Healing Touch, Yuen Energetics and has been a member of the AMTA since 1985. She loves getting her feet rubbed and loves to teach others how to effectively give a foot reflexology session. After 20 years of experience with her private practice, she began training in energetic healing, Healing Touch, Psychological Kinesiology and Chinese Energetics. Currently she offers reflexology at
Longmont United Hospital, as well as maintains a private practice in Boulder of reflexology, massage and energetic healing. Dee Dee teaches Foot Reflexology, Hand Reflexology, and Natural Energy Flows.
Mary Kathleen Rose, CMT
Mary Kathleen Rose graduated from BCMT in 1985 and has a B.A. in Integrative Healing with a minor in Art from Metropolitan State College of Denver. She developed Comfort Touch®, a nurturing style of acupressure, in response to the special needs of the elderly and the chronically ill. Since 1995, she has supervised the BCMT student internship program at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties. For 12 years she facilitated hospice-sponsored bereavement support groups. Mary is a nationally known consultant for massage research and training in medical settings, including work with people with spinal cord injuries, cancer, diabetes and hospice/palliative care. Mary has a private practice in Comfort Touch®, Barefoot Shiatsu and Integrative Massage. A wellness educator and herbalist, she holds a certification from Susun Weed in The Spirit and Practice of the Wise Woman Tradition. She produced the internationally recognized video Comfort Touch® Massage for the Elderly and the Ill, and authored a textbook of the same title. With many published magazine articles to her credit, she is also a contributing author for the textbook Teaching Massage. Currently, she teaches Comfort Touch® in the Continuing Education program of BCMT.
Melanie Russell, CMT
Melanie attended the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh as a psychology major and art minor. She is a CMT with additional certification in Geriatric Massage and DaySpring. Melanie also has training in: Chakra Work Training for Bodyworkers, Trauma Training for Bodyworkers, Children and Spirituality, Arnold Mindell Dreamwork for Bodyworkers, Jungian dreamwork, Life Design Program for Women in Prison, Spiritual Reality and Spiritual Ritual, Body Energetics for Bodywork professionals, and Body/Mind/Spirit Reichian. Her professional/bodywork experience
is based on self-selected health choices clients make to find healing, balance, growth
or relaxation within a body/mind/spirit framework. When a client is aware of body-related information (a dream, pain, energy, emotion) that invites them to move toward health and wholeness, then supportive bodywork can complete the movement. Erik Schirmer, BS, CMT
Erik earned a BS in Psychology from Portland State University and is currently a candidate for an MA in Somatic Psychotherapy at Naropa University. He graduated from the Oregon School of Massage and the Acupressure Institute and is a Certified and Licensed (Oregon) Massage Therapist. Erik currently teaches Integrative Therapeutic massage and courses in the Psychosocial department. Erik is a contributing author to the textbook Teaching Massage.
Margaret (Peg) Seron, DC
Dr. Peggy Seron received her chiropractic degree with honors from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1982. She earned specialty board certifications as a radiologist (DACBR) in 1984 and a chiropractic orthopedist (DABCO) in 1989. She also completed a fellowship in advanced imaging (CT and MRI) in 1991. Dr. Seron has maintained a consulting radiology practice in Denver, CO for more than 20 years. In addition, she has taught radiology as a member of the faculty of 2 chiropractic colleges – Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and University of Bridgeport’s College of Chiropractic. She has presented seminars on chiropractic radiology and advanced imaging with clinical case studies throughout the United States and Canada. Dr. Seron also has published over 35 articles in various chiropractic journals, and is a contributing author to the most widely-used chiropractic radiology textbook.
Louise Sexton, B.F.A., M.S., NCTMB
Before discovering her passion for massage therapy, Louise earned her BFA in Scientific Illustration from the University of Georgia in 1997 and her MS in Medical Illustration from the Medical College of Georgia in 1999. She was a practicing Medical Illustrator for a number of years and continues to apply her anatomical and artistic background to her massage practice and other creative ventures. Louise graduated from BCMT in 2002 and since then has worked in private practice, medical clinics and health spas. Currently she is continuing in private practice and also works at an integrative medicine clinic that offers osteopathic and natural medicine, acupuncture, psychotherapy and massage therapy. Louise is a teaching assistant for Anatomiken and an instructor of Swedish Therapeutic Massage.
Kala Spangler, BA, CMT
Kala received her BA in Religion from the University of the South in 1988. She is also a CMT with additional certifications in prenatal and postpartum massage. She is a Certified Instructor in Infant Massage (CIIM) and holds a certificate for Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). She has also had extensive training in Massage for Medically Fragile Infants. Kala has been a massage therapist since 1997 and specializes in massage for the growing family. Prior to becoming a massage therapist, she worked in the private and non-profit sectors. Kala teaches in the Prenatal/Labor/Postpartum Certificate Program.
Beck Stephens, BA, LMT, CI, AOBTA
Beck began practicing bodywork in 1982. She studied Zen Shiatsu privately and attended the Swedish Institute in New York City, and became an LMT in the state of New York. Beck studied with Pauline Sasaki and Nelita Po’Okui Anderson Cook and built her work on two systems of energy medicine: Shiatsu and Mana O’Hana, the healing art form based in traditional Hawaiian Medicine. In 1997, she co-founded Digital Press Publishing and produced two anatomical charts of the Loving Anatomy Series to help instructors and practitioners teach about the human body. In 2003, she began studies with Dr. Gregory Antyuhin, a medical intuitive from Russia who has
practiced medicine as a psychiatric doctor and shamanic healer. Beck’s passion and
life work is to help people find their way to a positive outlook and a sense of wellbeing and passion and for life to be lived with love, gratitude, consciousness and kindness. Beck is a Zen Shiatsu instructor and teaches in the Art of Zen Certificate Program. She has a private practice in Boulder with the Heart Fire Healing Center.
Michelle Stevens, LMT, NCTMB
Michelle graduated from BCMT in 2001, is licensed in Denver, and is nationally certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork. Michelle is also a Certified Neuromuscular Therapist. She started working at a physical therapy clinic and chiropractic office in 2001, primarily treating injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents as well as spinal and orthopedic conditions. She also began building her private practice. Currently she maintains her practice and works with a Licensed Acupuncturist/Nutritionist treating specific pain-related conditions as well as providing general wellness and stress reduction bodywork. Michelle teaches Introduction to Massage Therapy and Swedish Therapeutic Massage.
Aspen Sullivan, LMT
Aspen graduated from the Omaha School of Massage Therapy in 1995. After passing
the Nebraska State Boards and receiving her license, she began working in a chiropractic office. In 1997 she relocated to Colorado and explored other career opportunities in a corporate environment and in retail. In May of 2000, the desire to be of service to people drew her back to massage therapy. She trusted the universe to guide her to make the correct decision and refocused her career goals back to massage. Within two months, Aspen was offered a position in a chiropractic office in Denver and was soon rewarded with a solid practice. In 2002, she got married and moved to Longmont. The next year she started teaching Swedish Therapeutic
Massage at BCMT. Aspen has been the past First Vice President/Public Relations Chair
for the Colorado-Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Associate. Currently, she
is the Community Internship and Alumni Manager.
Laura Yasuda, MA, NCMT
Laura is a 2003 graduate of BCMT and the Institute for Thai Massage in Thailand. She has a BA in Cultural Anthropology from the UC at Santa Barbara and a MA in Education from San Jose State University. Before finding a passion for massage therapy, Laura taught English in companies throughout Tokyo, and worked in California for a high tech corporation, an internet start-up company, and a non-profit organization. This past year, Laura completed an intensive yoga teacher training and currently teaches at a local yoga studio. She is a registered yoga instructor and teaches Thai Massage.
