The Best Perk of the Bolder Boulder isn't found in the Goody Bag
At approximately 7:00am MDT on May 28, 2007, the 29th annual Bolder Boulder 10K road race will commence. At the same time, the gymnasium of the Colorado University will be transformed into a giant massage "clinic", where 80+ students and 20+ staff and faculty of the Boulder College of Massage Therapy will be awaiting the arrival of the first wave of runners. This will be the 19th year that BCMT has provided post event sports massage for this world-renowned race. Second, third and fourth quarter students will be practicing their massage skills to the beat of the "oldies" while some first quarter students will be carrying the school's banner and directing people to the gymnasium for massage, while others will be giving arm and hand massages for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter students.

The 2006 Bolder Boulder drew 47,000 participants, of which, 1600 of these participants received massage, breaking the previous year's record! The goal now, is to break last year's record! Check out the Bolder Boulder website: www.bolderboulder.com . And, if you're in the area, come out and cheer on all of the amazing participants!

Faculty Spotlight: Update on Dr. Ken Morgareidge
Since his retirement from BCMT, Dr. Ken has remained very involved in the world of anatomy and clay. His love of the medium and his passion to teach others, has led Dr. Ken to join John Zahourek in the founding of a non-profit organization, the Whitman-Zahourek Foundation and to be named its Executive Director. The goals of this foundation are to encourage innovative studies of anatomy, and to make anatomy a core subject at every level of education, from elementary school through high school. The foundation will be offering primary education as well as doing fundraising for scholarship and research.

In addition to his foundation duties, Dr. Ken teaches several specialized classes at the Anatomy in Clay Center in Boulder .

Currently on his teaching schedule at the center are three upcoming classes:
Core Data I June 6th - 10th (almost all the muscles of the body)
Anatomy in Clay for the Hand and Arm July 14th and 15th
Anatomy in Clay for Internal Organs September 20th and 21st

Dr. Ken in very happy in "retirement". He enjoys his flexible schedule that allows him the time to take long walks in the woods and to be an active member of the Denver Zen Center.

Dr. Ken reminisced about the early years of BCMT. He recalled that when BCMT was first established in the 70's (called The Boulder School of Massage Therapy), the two-room school was located in the Colorado Building in downtown Boulder and was located across the hall from the office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation! The College then occupied at least a dozen different locations in and around Boulder (including a building that was demolished to make way for Target's parking lot, and what is now the Kaiser clinic, for which we were out-bid by half a million dollars) until it settled in for several years at what is now Naropa's paramita campus at 30th and Iris. The College was located there until the last move to Gunbarrel . BCMT has come a long way since those early years, and Dr. Ken was, and is, a significant member of the BCMT community. We miss you, Dr. Ken!
