Zen Shiatsu
This Japanese for of bodywork is based on traditional Chinese medicine and focuses on working with the flow of energy (Qi) in the body. The pracitioner applies pressue with palms and thumbs to relax muscle tension and streches are included to increase range of motion. Because the client remains fully clothed, this can be a great first time bodywork session for any age. More
experienced receivers
will also appreciate its effectiveness. Sessions are held on futons in a group setting. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring clean socks.
Swedish Therapeutic Massage
The basis of all Western styles of bodywork, this modality is useful for stress relief, increased circulation, and reduced muscular fatigue. The basic concepts of Swedish massage include kneading, friction, percussion, vibration, and compression. Students use bolsters and impeccable draping techniques to ensure client comfort.
Normalization of Soft Tissue (NST)
This form of therapeutic massage helps treat areas affected by postural dysfunction, repetitive stress, and traumatic injuries. The key objectives of the treatment are: alleviation of pain, increase in range of motion, and the improvement/restoration of function. Techniques involved include myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, and trigger point therapy.
Integrative Therapeutic Massage
Originally based on the body-centered, psychotherapeutic work of Wilhelm Reich, this style of bodywork focuses mindfulness, embodiment and holism. Developed at BCMT over 30 years ago, this modality incorporates broad fluid strokes, breath work, and open communication with clients to support their overall health and well-being through a mind-body-spirit connection.
