Transfer of Credit

TRANSFER OF CREDIT: 1000-Hour Certificate in Massage Therapy
BCMT accepts transfer credit from accredited two-and four-year colleges and universities. 1000-Hour Massage Therapy Certificate Program wishing to transfer credit from another institution must complete the regular application process and submit a request for transfer credit. Transfer credit will only be granted for equivalent courses taken within the last five years and ones in which the student has earned a grade of "B" or better.

Note: In order to request transfer of credit, applicants must submit a completed Transfer Request Form, a transcript, and course description(s) prior to enrollment at BCMT.

Candidates for the 1000-Hour Massage Therapy Certificate Program may request transfer credit for the following courses:

Movement I
Equivalent courses may include Alexander Technique, Movement Awareness & Injury Prevention, Exercise Physiology/Science, Introduction to Movement Studies, Dance Therapy & Kinesiology

Anatomy & Physiology I & II
Equivalent courses may include Human Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, & Biology 201/202 at a Colorado community college

Pathophysiology
Equivalent courses may include Human Pathophysiology & Principles/Fundamentals of Pathophysiology

Psychosocial Aspects of Touch
Equivalent courses may include Somatic Psychology and psychology courses related to health and healing

Career I and II
Equivalent courses may include Business Communication, Fundamentals of Marketing, Personal Finance, & Small Business Management

CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING: 1000-Hour Certificate in Massage Therapy
Candidates for the 1000-Hour Massage Therapy Certificate Program, who have prior training and work experience in massage therapy, may request credit for prior learning by submitting a Credit for Prior Learning:1000-Hour form and portfolio for review. Applicants may request credit for prior learning for one or more of BCMT's core modality courses: (Zen) Shiatsu, Swedish Therapeutic Massage, Normalization of Soft Tissue (Neuromuscular) and Integrative Therapeutic Massage.

Unless the applicant is currently working as a massage therapist, transfer credit will only be granted for equivalent courses taken within the last five years and ones in which the student has earned a grade of "B" or better.

CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING : A0S In Massage Therapy Degree Program
The Associate of Occupational Studies in Massage Therapy Degree will be awarded after successful completion of a total of 102-quarter credit hours (85 quarter credit hours from the 1000-Hour Massage Therapy Certificate Program and 17 earned as part of the AOS Program). Candidates for the AOS Degree in Massage Therapy who have not graduated from the 1000 Hour Massage Therapy Certificate Program at BCMT may request credit for prior learning by submitting an application and portfolio for review.

In accordance with ACCSCT requirements, non-BCMT graduates who receive credit for prior learning for admittance to the AOS Degree program must still complete 25% of their education or a total of 25-quarter credit hours of coursework at BCMT.

AOS Core Curriculum (17.6 quarter credit hours)

Corequisite Coursework for Non-BCMT Graduates (8 quarter credit hours):
To meet the 25-quarter credit hour requirement, non-BCMT graduates must take at least 104 contact hours or 8-quarter credit hours of additional coursework from our Advanced Bodywork Studies Certificate programs. Suggested coursework includes:
