Three of the biggest benefits to becoming a massage therapist include:

• You can have a flexible schedule with a great income your first year
Demand for Massage Therapy is Greater Than Ever
According to the American Massage Therapy Association® (AMTA), more than 16% of the entire American population has at least one massage every year - that’s 25 million more Americans than 10 years ago. One of the reasons this upward trend is happening is because the perception of massage therapy is changing, especially among men and the Generation Y age group. As opposed to being considered a luxury, more and more people are relying on massage therapy to relieve pain and recovery from injuries.
Surveys conducted by Boulder-based Harstad Research and the AMTA in 2006 reveal:
• Massages for adult men jumped from 8% to 13% between 2004 and 2006
• 30% of Americans now seek massage therapy for medical reasons such as injury recovery, pain reduction and overall wellness
• 92% of Generation Y respondents believe that massages are an effective way to relieve pain
• 48% of 18 to 24-year-olds, have had a massage for pain
• 53% of people who discuss massage with their healthcare providers, say their doctors recommend it

In most working environments, you can choose the number of days you work or the number of massages you would like to perform every week and create a schedule that is the right fit for you.
According to the AMTA, massage school graduates who perform an average of 15 massages in a week, you’ll earn approximately $29,250 annually (not bad for one year of massage school!). Depending on where you live and how successfully you build up your clientele over the years, you can eventually earn a six-figure income doing a job that you love.
