In CA you not only have to have seperate entrance...the space has to be completely separated from your living space. For example: a New Orleans style store on the ground level, with an apartment on the second level. It is next to impossible out here. Believe me, I know, I have been battling the cities, zoning, permits, lics, etc. Then, IF you happen to find a place that will qualify you can not have a "massage place"...in order to do so the massage has to be associated with a full service spa (this varies from city to city I think). It's a real nightmare....now it comes to me having to move out of state so that I can work at home...legally of course. Thousands of massage therapists do it illegally in CA, but it's not worth the risk of losing it all.

Jacqui,
I'm sorry I don't know of any. Check the local job listings on-line in your area such as Monster.com and others. Get pro-active try chiropractic offices, spas, gyms, and other places perhaps renting space instead of being an employee. If you can't find what you are looking for; and you have not signed a no compete contract, maybe it's time to spread your wings and try a private practice.

Hi Chrissy,
I do, there are some limitations on home businesses depending on your HOA. But as far as the taxes are concerned income is income, many people work from home these days to save on overhead expenses, you are considered self-employed and have to pay taxes as such. If you have specific questions regarding tax laws, I reccomend consulting a tax preparer because I am not an expert on taxes. But I do know I use my home address as the location for the income. Thanks for the question!

Great article, however, it could leave out the stereotypical comment about "lunch ladies", and be just as effective!

Rebecca, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It reminds me how fleeting life can be and that it should be cherished. I think I'll call a friend and head down to the beach. Be well.
