There truly is no lack of things to do in Boulder.

Reading the title of this article may immediately turn your thoughts to Colorado University, a 4-year plus college. However Boulder offers a plethora of other college options besides a 4-year state college. If you are interested in the healing arts you have found a gold mine. Of course Boulder College of Massage Therapy is here and I would have my bias towards that option especially since I think everyone should come here. However we team up with many other fine ,reputable programs that offer other avenues of learning. South West Acupuncture College is a neighbor of ours just down the street and Naropa University to name just a few other options. The facts are, though, whichever discipline you decide to embark on Boulder is a great place to explore those options. Since we have students of every sort gracing the streets of Boulder, and attending all different types of programs there are always new friends to be made. There are so many activities here to enjoy that can cost little to no money or a little more depending on your desire. CU has music venues, plays, concerts, games, and a planetarium to name a few. Downtown Boulder has street performers, live bands, outdoor movies on the library (yes, they really are on the outside of the library), music in the parks, festivals, parades, street fairs, and Farmers markets. If you love the arts there are exhibitions, shows, shops and galleries galore to peruse through. The sport’s enthusiast or weekend warrior could not even do all the trails around Boulder. Hiking, biking, kayaking, climbing, rafting, can be taken on just in the near vicinity up or down Boulder Creek and Canyon. If you’re the competitive sort, then you may want to try your hand at running, biking, or swimming in one of the many, many competitions offered in the area. That doesn’t even begin to include the winter sports which can be for everyone, snow-boarding, skiing are the norm but if your looking for unusual try mono skiing, sitski, cross country skiing or telemark. Don’t want all that exertion? Jump on a snowmobile, or get pulled behind one on a tube! Sound fun? Ready to come here? There truly is no lack of things to do in Boulder. Travel a little ways and you have several hot springs, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre. So if you’re moving here to attend CU, great, and if your moving here to attend another program know you’re in good company and bring along along your sports equipment. Colorado has over 300 days of sunshine a year, that makes for fun picnicking anytime anywhere. I hear from students all the time that they are aprehensive to move away from home to a new place, well with all the movers and shakers we have around here why not try it. Come make new friends. You can pick a shorter program and try moving here for 1 year. You know the commercial, try it, you’ll like it , hey mikey!!

On May 25th about 53,000 people pulled out their running shoes, got their bodies out of bed early, and joined in the time honored tradition of the famous Bolder Boulder 10 K run, walk, and party in the streets of Boulder. This year was the 31st time this race has taken place and the students of BCMT have been there for 21 of those years. Our students showed up early and were willing to offer their newly acquired skills to bring relaxation and relief to tired, sore, and sometimes injured athletes. This year BCMT students worked on 1257 participants, giving each and every one a 10-15 minute sports massage session to help alleviate pain, soreness, flush out the lactic acid, stretch bound up muscles, and shorten recovery time.

Elite runners from all over join together to push themselves in this competition to better their times and qualify for upcoming events. However, after these trailblazers burn up the course everyone else gets to join in too. Men, women, and children alike take on the race with high hopes of setting new personal records, or just finishing. However, from where I stood bright and early Monday morning all I heard was “I do it for the free massages”. Now, I know we are not the only reason they do it, but if we can be part of the motivation for people to get out, get in shape, and get some great exercise, hey we’ll take it!

If you participated this year or in years past, did you come to the gym to see our therapists? It’s an amazing sight to see, we had 76 massage tables set up to care for the runners coming in to see us. Our students worked hard to consider the needs of each client. Everyone benefited, from the most seasoned athletes all the way to our youngest participants.

All enjoyed the fun atmosphere with music and good energy. Some of our very own instructors who ran the race, joined us for some post-race bodywork too. Way to go Nate B., Natalie M., and Todd A.!

Thank-you to all our faithful patrons that support our student’s learning.

If you did miss us this year, come see us next year, you may have to stand in line but it’s well worth the wait!

After a long day we still had great energy!
