Community Service - Service Learning

US War VeteranService Learning focuses on enhancing the learning of students while enriching the community. BCMT students have been interning and volunteering in the community since 1979. BCMT has a commitment to be actively involved in the well being of our community! In Service Learning students have the unique opportunity to share massage therapy in a variety of community settings and with many different populations. These experiences will inspire their confidence by allowing them to apply the skills they learn in the classroom and clinic. This fieldwork also allows the student to bring specific questions back to their course instructors for insightful discussions. During this process of reaching out, students continue to facilitate the acceptance and credibility of massage therapy as a healing art and science.

The Boulder College of Massage Therapy volunteers on average over 6,000 hours a year. It’s a powerful statement, an inspiring vision, and a call to action that the Boulder College of Massage Therapy (BCMT) has taken up time and time again throughout its 35-year history. Some of the deserving recipients are US war veterans with post traumatic stress disorder, preschoolers, athletes, musicians, and dance and theatre performers at CU, patients at Boulder Community Hospital and many more!! At Boulder Community Hospital alone, students contribute yearly on average 250 hours of therapeutic massage to patients in prenatal, postpartum, cancer, cardiac, and orthopedic care. Each year BCMT donates massages to over 1500 of the athletes and community participants at the cities annual Bolder Boulder 10 K running event.

As a nonprofit massage school, our philosophy is to provide students with the diverse, hands-on experience they need to develop successful careers, while consistently giving back to the community through the healing power of touch.
